Taster Days

These are free events that take place on a single day in Cambridge and are provided for academically able students from maintained sector schools and colleges.

Taster Day - Student Performer

What are they?

This event provides prospective year 12 students with a taste of what life as a Music student at the University of Cambridge would be like. Students will  experience the teaching methods used by university academics and gain an insight into the facilities available at the Faculty of Music, whilst meeting students from across the UK. Days may typically include a sample lecture, a tour of a college, a practical session and a talk including a Q and A session with current undergraduates.

When is it?

We run Music Taster Days for Year 12 students every March and July at the Faculty of Music.

Dates for 2016-17 Taster Days to be announced soon.

What's it like to go on a Music Taster Day?

Here's a short insight from Zeena Beale, a current 2nd Year Music Student, about her experience coming to a Music Taster Day:

"After going on the Taster Day at the Cambridge Music Faculty when I was in Year 12, my mind was made up that I was definitely going to apply to Cambridge for Music. It gave me a opportunity to get a feel of what the faculty is like, and the lecturers who gave our "Taster Lectures" were very welcoming and encouraging. We even got the chance to explore a college near to the Faculty, and that was great to experience the non academic side of being at Cambridge. However, getting the chance to wander around the Faculty, to see the library stocked full of books and scores, both ancient and new filled me with so much excitement that I wanted to be studying there as soon as possible!
So it's thanks to the brilliant experience I had on the Taster Day at the Music Faculty that I even considered applying to Cambridge in the first place, and I'm so glad I did. It's living up to everything I hoped it would be, and more!"
